Fighting emigration from Mexico

More than 45,000 people fled Michoacan in 2004 alone, most of them from rural communities, lured to the United States by the prospect of an hourly minimum wage equivalent to a day's worth of work at home, or in the case of many women, by a marriage proposal from a young man who had established himself there.
